It has been a while since I expressed a longer political view –– with 99 days to go, it is as good a time as any.
A number of pundits and pollsters are reexamining the 2016 election and using it as a yardstick with which to measure the sitting president’s current popularity — or lack thereof. Most of the trends at present are not looking good for the current oval office occupant, but the one defense/comeback from the RNC and the campaign is that the polls were equally unkind to the then-candidate’s prospects in 2016, and they overcame those nay-sayers to win the position (in a constitutional sense, if not a popular one). That argument, however, overlooks one important fact, “BIGLY.”
In 2016, the then-candidate had not ever held any political office, so he was running against hypothetical arguments. I can only guess that the thought for some who supported him was that any excess or radical departure from the political firmament would be reigned in by both the Constitution and the experienced members of government (aka “the adults in the room”). In 2020, there is no longer any hypothesis about how this will all work. From thuggish enforcers warping the Constitution beyond all recognition (though it took a few rejects to get to the current crooked AG) to a Senate Majority Leader and other lickspittle enablers looking in any other direction possible away from the unmitigated, unbridled, and unbelievable actions of a self-serving president, we KNOW what he will do in the office. So in 99 days, let us not fall for this specious “we did it before we can do it again” argument. He is no longer the underdog in polls because he is an unknown, he is now behind because he is UNFIT, which he proves time and time again on a daily basis.
On Nov. 3rd, vote Biden, VOTE BYE-DON!!!
