Steve Valentine is not only a fine actor, he is a very accomplished magician. Prestidigitation is an interest he shared with one of our writer/producers, Bob Kushell, and they even wrote a few card tricks into Steve’s episode. Unfortunately, Bob was having some serious back issues and missed the week we shot that episode. As a little pick-me-up, our great art department and our prop staff put together this fake book and we shot a few gag shots with Steve to send to Bob.
These departments go unnoticed for the most part and really, when they do their job right – that’s only right, it’s only when they mess up that you notice. Sometimes with little or no prep time , they are able to secure just the right piece of furniture, an antique tool, or even conjure up an item that never existed. With such feats, they can help transport you to another time, another land, even another world — that’s real magic.
